Wilmington Skate Project Awarded $250 Thousand

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to give you a quick update on some recent developments concerning the Wilmington Skate Project:

1) Last night, the Wilmington, DE City Council unanimously approved granting an additional $250,000 worth of funding for the creation of the free skatepark. This is a major victory for the WSP, both politically and financially, and is a major step forward toward finally breaking ground. Special thanks to Councilman Kelly and WSP head Marc Calder for all their hard work.

2) The Tony Hawk Foundation recently awarded the WSP an additional $5000 grant for construction funds. Below is a link to an article about the grant the ran in the January 15th edition of The News Journal:

Right now, between grants, city funding and individual fundraising, the WSP has raised roughly $312,000. Our park is +20,0000 sq. ft. and "estimated" at approx. $500,000.00+ for construction so we still have a way to go on the fundraising side of things. If you or anyone you
know has any leads on possible fundraising opportunities or ideas (corporate donations, fundraisers, etc.), we would greatly appreciate any feedback or information you could provide.

We need all the help we can get.

Trixine Acquires Business License

It is with bittersweet news that I announce that Trixine is now a registered business in the State of Delaware.

Over the past 5 or 6 years we've managed to stay afloat by living by the typical rules of life. Ethics, courtesy, equal trading, and doing things simply because we are passionate about them. Sure, we've made lots of mistakes over the years and pissed off more than a few people, but that's part of growing pains and is expected when pushing the envelope in a conservative environment that offers little to no training for what we are trying to accomplish (including training on defining what you want to accomplish).

So why is it bittersweet? The last issue of tric was dedicated to music reviews, which means you need to have music reviewers. We lost about 20 music cds to deadbeat reviewers who will be named shortly along with correspondence. We are unsure at this moment if we will proceed with small claims (the paperwork process has already begun), or whether a public notice of said reviewers will be fair enough to constitute the loss.

Please note we do not pay money to our music reviewers at this time. Payment is getting to keep the review material (cd format) and additonal PR perks such as spots on a guest list for a show, as well as the general gratification of writing and feeling of involvement. Casey Grabowski does not make any money on "Tric Zine". In fact, he looses quite a bit every issue, not to mention sleep. It is his way, as well as most of its contributors, to give back to the artistic zeitgeist.

We do pay money to our graphic designers when they design custom ads for businesses. Otherwise, all artwork is considered contributed to "the cause" as well.

Perhaps becoming an official business is the next step to making money so that we can upgrade our paper and start paying employees. For now though, no more cds go out to reviewers without a signed contract.
